Atheism - The Unforgivable Sin?

There has been much talk and speculation about this “sin” down through the centuries. Certainly there has been much undue worry about whether “I’ve committed the unforgivable sin” in the minds of many people. There’s even a web site dedicated to trying to commit the unforgivable sin.

Anyhow, it seems to me that the only sin that is unforgivable is the sin that denies the need for forgiveness, or denies there to be a means of forgiveness. It seems to me that denying the existence of God would cover both of those scenarios.

“Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to all men who please Him”

There is no peace for those who will not give glory to God in the highest.

I believe it's referred to as the sin of unbelief.

So, theologically Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Jews will be joining me in Hell for denying Jesus was/is God, right?

So, combining this post and the previous post, you will no longer be blogging?

All the atheists have committed the unforgiveable sin, Hell is where we want to be anyway, so there's no reason to try to convert atheists, or prevent atheism.

Cool.

As I’ve tried to tell Rab, to assume that how you are today is how you will be for the rest of your life is a mistake.

You of all people show know this PF. What if before you went into recovery you assumed that is how life would always be. I know I did. In fact there was a time when I wanted to just stay loaded for the rest of my life. If you had told me back then that I’d be straight AND a Christian, I’d have told you that you’re crazy.

There may be a point in the future when you become sick to death of a third rate life and you'll get the courage to try for something better.

When that time comes, whether it's tomorrow, or when you're 90 years old, God will be waiting with open arms, ready to forgive you and to welcome you home.

Mak, you sound alot like Anne Rice. It's very easy to believe something if you want it to be true. Your problem is that you have decided that life without belief in your monotheistic Judeo-Christian god is a "third rate life". You can't cope with that reality so you have decided to opt into your own deluded world.

BTW, I loved your little tête à tête with the Muslim a few posts back (your quotes: does Allah love me? does Allah love his enenemies?) What a crock of sh*t! The only thing more amusing than watching a theist debate their beliefs with an atheist is to watch two theists debate over whose delusions should be preferred. Rab nailed it with: 'My god is better than you're god, Nah nah nah nah nah' Classic.

Well, I'm making a comparison. I’ve tried both and in comparison, life without Jesus truly is third rate.

I was able to cope without Jesus. I did very well, at least as the world judges doing well. As I said at one other point, I was at a party and oveheard a woman say, “Is life every a bag of shit.” That simple comment allowed me to see our lifestyle from a different perspective.

It was still another five years before I became a Christian but . . . anyhow, I think my assessment is accurate. Every year since becoming a Christian has been better than the year before and I can’t imagine anything or anyone convincing me to go back.

I have no doubt that some find life more pleasant by entrusting their worries, fears and aspirations to the supernatural. It's funny how you and I have drifted to opposite ends of the spectrum. I am attracted by the following quote by English psychologist Joanna Field: "“I used to worry about what life was for - now being alive seems sufficient reason.”

That's beautiful. Excuse me while I brush a tear from my eye.

Rod,
I'm an atheist and I find your comments to be quite insulting. But I sense you mean well, so...I forgive you.

And i have told you Mak, that i will never become a Christian.

If you don't want to address the conundrum that i put forward to you by throwing out that we can't see the future, then fine. It's a shitty cop-out, rather than addressing god's clear illogical nature, but i'm used to it now.

I cannot seek forgiveness or even begin to believe if this is the way he intended me to be.
