Oh those silly atheists.

I can’t remember who it was, but he had a go at the pathetic claim that if it’s in the Bible, then it must be ordained by and approved of by God. The example he used was Abraham lying to a Pharaoh by telling him that Sarah was his sister and not his wife. Imagine that! No, not that. Rather, imagine how stupid you have to be to believe that if an account of some guy offering his wife to save his skin is recorded in the Bible, that must mean that God approved of it.

What these guys don't' seem to get is that the Bible is, from beginning to end, a book that documents God working in and through human failures to bring about His plan of redemption for the world. If I'm correct, out of all the so called Bible heroes, I think Daniel and Job are the only two who don't have tremendous moral failures recorded.

Paul was a torturer and a murderer
King David, a man who loved God, was an adulterer, and a murderer and a liar
Peter was ready to kill as well as denying his Master.
Jacob was a liar and a schemer as was his mother
Abraham was willing to trade his wife for his own safety
Samson was a womaniser and a murderer

The “heroes” of the Bible were deeply flawed individuals. Yet God took these flaws and, as He is willing to do with us, turned them to work for His plan of redemption for the world. Why does God use people like this? Because deeply flawed individuals are all He has to work with?

Why do atheists think that if it’s written in the Bible God must approve of it? Well, I'm trying extra hard to day to play nice and I can't think of any nice way of saying it. It doesn't fall under the categories of logic and reason.

I don't think all of them do. Atheists are just people who don't believe in gods. There are not so clever atheists just like there are not so clever theists.

That's true! I was just looking at some 9/11 stuff earlier tonight. I find it really sad that many? Americans believe that their own government would do that to them just to justify starting a war.

What I don't get is how a Christian can have it both ways but an Atheist is not allowed the luxury.

For example, you're basically taking the liberal standpoint and criticizing the atheist's claim as being too literal, that God works through revelation, and that takes metaphor... so to mistake an incident in the Bible as a God ordained ordeal is a form of legalism.

But then, do not many Christians turn around and say Adam and Eve sinned and fell from grace, thus causing the necessity for Christ's redemptive atonment? Where did the metaphor go? What happened to the allegory? How come this Bible story is read literally and the others are... passed off as just stories to learn from.

Maybe you're not one of the Fundamentalists, or New Earthers, or Creationists, but they are out there and I come from one such group and know how they think.

So I find it a little hypocritical of you to claim that atheists are guilty of doing something which is clear to me that MOST Christians do anyway.

Hi Tristan i think maybe i kinda understand some of what you are talking about here.

Its a bit like the faithful can claim certain things "can" be known about the will of gods, yet then ALSO claim certain things "cant" be known about the will of gods.

So then which mere human/s should be the ones who gets to judge and choose, what supposedly actually "can" be known and what actually "cant" be known?.

Russian Roulette?

Its utter madness. Its double ended story which has specially been DESIGNED by humans to never be able to really be proved right or wrong.

Tristan I'm surprised that this is a puzzle for you. I mean, you are not ignorant. You know what the Bible says but after all these years you seem to have so little understanding. Can you not see how God's foreknowledge of what we will do is NOT the same as His approval of what we will do? That seem so clear to me. God knew Cain would kill his brother, and God's plan takes that action into account, but He surely didn't approve of murdering Able.
