R U Dumb Enough?

I don’t know if anyone has been following the utterly dismal atheist attempt by Gorth and his comrades to disprove the Bible by using literal interpretation where metaphor or poetry or symbolism is so very obvious to any sane and rational individual. To prove that the Bible teaches a flat earth, I was referred by Gorth to this site.

http://www.answering-christianity.com/earth_flat.htm

I’ve long said that atheist and Islamic fundamentalists are very, very similar in the manner in which they process information and interpret observations. They are also similar in their bigotry and manipulation of information for their own ends. This charge of what the Bible teaches by both atheists and the ludicrous Islamic website leads me to ask:

R U dumb enough to be an atheist? Take the test below and find out.

Atheists are saying that, “the Bible teaches that the earth is flat.”

This accusation is based upon verses like, “. . . gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth” Isaiah 11:12

Does this mean that the earth literally has “four corners”? Or does it mean the same as today when people say, “I’d search to the ends of the earth for my son,” or “Police have searched to the far corners of the earth and she’s simply disappeared”?

Are the atheists and their Islamic cohorts correct?
============

Atheists are saying that, “The Bible teaches that the earth stands still.”

This accusation is based upon verses like, “The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.” Ecclesiastes 1:5

Does this mean that the earth literally stands still and the sun revolves around it? Or does it mean the same as today when people say, “Day after day I work from sunrise to sunset. Around and around it goes and it never seems to end.” Or, "Sunrise tomorrow is at 7:15."

Are the atheists and their Islamic cohort correct?
=============

Atheist are saying that, “The Bible teaches that the earth is set upon pillars.”

This accusation is based upon verses like, “Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand.” Job 38:4

Does this mean that the earth is literally set upon pillars? Or does it mean the same as today when people say, “Our understanding of science is built upon the very firm foundation of the laws of physics.”?

Are the atheists and their Islamic cohorts correct?
==============

Atheists are saying that, “The Bible teaches that the earth has edges.”

This accusation is based upon verses like, “. . .that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?” Job 38:13

Does this mean that the earth literally has edges? Is there any reason to think that this is any but metaphor? Have you ever met anyone who tries to “read” the Bible to the absurd literal levels that atheist and Islamic fundamentalists do?

Are the atheists and their Islamic cohort correct?
============

Here we have atheist and Islamic fundamentalists claiming to be educated and intelligent, yet, who are either not able to know, or who are pretending to not know the difference between symbolic and literal phrases in the Bible. These "gifted geniuses" either pretend to not be able or are in fact NOT capable of differentiating between metaphor, irony, or hyperbole.

Really, if atheists can’t say, this is where a poem ends and a moral directive begins, if they can’t understand that a political diatribe can’t be mixed with romantic literature, and, as is the case with the most fundamentalist of them all, Richard Dawkins, if finding these variations in genre within the same book comes off as disjointed and difficult to understand for them, then perhaps atheists should simply stick to Saturday night meet-ups in bars and leave the Bible completely alone.

On the other hand:
1) In the Bible, we have a Book that diagnoses the atheist problem clearly and concisely -
“No one is without excuse. The universe declares the existence of God.”
To date, nothing has been able to refute or falsify that claim.

2) The Bible tells us -
“What is visible is made from what is not visible”
- This 1,500 years before the microscope was invented.

3) The Bible tells us -
“God sits enthroned above the CIRCLE of the earth . . .”
- This thousands of years before people accepted that the earth wasn’t flat.

4) The Bible tells us -
“The earth will wear out like and old garment, There will be famines in many lands and war without ceasing,”
- this 2,000 years before anyone dreamed that the earth could run short of anything.

5) The Bible tells us -“The Lord suspends the earth over nothing.”
- This, 5,000 years before modern man confirmed its truth.

6) The Bible tells us -
“The number of the stars are like the sand which is on the seashore.”
- This, thousands and thousands of years before the telescope. Without the telescope only ~ 5,000 stars are visible to the naked eye. To say they were uncountable would have seemed preposterous. Yet it’s the truth.

This post is already getting long so I’ll stop but the question remains.

R U Dumb enough to be an atheist?

Has anyone ever told you you're a dumb cunt?
If not, let me be the first.
You are a dumb cunt.

...literal interpretation where metaphor or poetry or symbolism is so very obvious to any sane and rational individual...

Oh ya, like the part where a dude was born from a virgin, performed miracles, died on a cross and then came back zombie style to address his followers. I always enjoyed these symbols.

Circle of the earth?
What an amazing science fact... that's what the world looks like to anyone who's climbed a mountain or even a large hill.
BTW, A CIRCLE IS FLAT.

Ya, the Bible isn't literal.
Jehovah is just a metaphor. You would have to be stupid to believe an invisible "man"/"ghost" raped a teenager and was his own son.

Don't you see? If it's in the Bible and obviously "wrong," it's a metaphor. If most Christians still accept it as true, it's literal.

Regarding your six points at the end:

1. The Universe cannot come from nothing, only God can? Wonderful...

2. There is no such passage. God walks literally with Adam through the garden and is a physical being. He apparently also bears a striking resemblance to a hairless ape.

3. The earth is NOT a circle, it is a sphere. There is a massive dimensional difference between the shapes, and your inability to recognize a 2D shape as indeed representing a flat earth is astounding.

4. There is no mention of resources, only two common maladies of mankind: famine and war. The quote (Psalm 102:26) you allude to discusses the mortality of people, not the earth, which is everlasting (Ecclesiastes 1:4).

5. The Earth is suspended above a mantle of hot rock. The planet is not suspended in any way, and is in fact "falling" at all times (this is the case with all orbiting bodies).

6. I've seen the sky in a boat far from shore and all the light pollution. You can see more than 5,000 stars.

For a while I was actually hurt that you'd lie like this but anyway let's review what actually was said.

You asked:
"Could you enlighten me with the Book, chapter, verse where it says the sun circles the earth and while you're at it, where it says the earth is flat.
I'm serious
."

I commented:
Muslim apologetic on the Christian's flat Earth.
http://www.answering-christianity.com/earth_flat.htm
(includes green writing
)

Clearly labeled as Muslim apologetics. Clearly stating it contained "green writing", the sign of cranks.

And gave a summerary of this.
The earth is a flat circle on pillars with a "tent" of hard sky with water above and water around.

And how does Makarios respond?
With this:
"Gorth, did you know that you are positively the stupidest person that I have ever spoken with?
...
What a horrible way to start the new year talking to an idiot like you
."

Thanks.

Hugo: "zombie style to address his followers"

If Jesus had appeared "to Peter and then to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still iving, though some have fallen aasleep. then He appeared to James and then to all the apostles, and last of all He appeared to me also" (1st Cor. 15:3-8) zombie style rather than as someone victorious over death - there'd be no Christianity.

The fact of the matter is that Jesus didn't die on the cross. He hung for less than a day, and it explicitly says (John 19:33) they did not break his legs. There's no reason for him to have been dead after such a short time, and it's likely he was taken alive and nursed back to health over a couple days.

Thesauros said...

Gutless: If you weren’t an atheist, I’d say thank you.

Calling me something that is beautiful, tender and soft, warm and smooth, capable of producing incredible pleasure and bring forth life itself. I’d say, thank you.

However, atheists are proverbial for taking women’s bodies and comparing them to dirt and filth and disgust and ignorance. So I guess YOU calling me a cunt means something other than a compliment.

Thesauros said...

"they did not break his legs."

BECAUSE?

That is soooo atheist! Take half a verse in the Bible to "prove" a point and ignore the other half because, well because it's in the Bible.

Thesauros said...

Z - "Ya, the Bible isn't literal.
Jehovah is just a metaphor. You would have to be stupid to believe an invisible "man"/"ghost" raped a teenager and was his own son."

So, are you saying that all of the Bible ISN'T to be taken literally?

And if so, why do atheists read ALL of it literally?

Isn't it a fact that atheists do this because, as I said in the post, Atheists are too dumb to differentiate where a poem ends and a moral directive begins; too dumb to understand that a political diatribe can’t be mixed with romantic literature. Isn't it true that atheism makes people too dumb to distinquish between
metaphor, irony, or hyperbole?

The way you and other atheists read the Bible, the case seems clear. U R dumb enough to be an atheist.

World of Facts said...

lol Makarios, you really do not get the point.
You are saying that someone who does not believe the Bible to be true is too dumb "to understand that a political diatribe can’t be mixed with romantic literature. Isn't it true that atheism makes people too dumb to distinquish between metaphor, irony, or hyperbole?"
But the point is that YOU are the one who's too dumb to do just that. How can you seriously believe that some miraculous events are true, but not the others, how can you believe that the God of the Bible is your creator god, yet the Bible gives a ridiculous explanation of its supposed act of creation. How can you be dumb enough to interpret all the violence of God as metaphorical but the good parts as literal? YOU are the one who's picking an choosing and not able to see what's true or not. Stop reading the Bible as if it were the word of God and you might get it. Oh wait, you can't do that...

Thesauros said...

"How can you be dumb enough to interpret all the violence of God as metaphorical but the good parts as literal?"

You're making a LOT of assumptions in what you say, this being one of them.

World of Facts said...

You're making a LOT of assumptions in what you say, this being one of them.

Assumptions? Like what?
I am just giving a general picture of how we do not perceive the Bible the same way, nothing specific...
And yes of course I do assume some things, like the fact that you consider much more parts of the Bible to be literal than I do...

Oh but I do not believe your god exists so I am the one who's dumb and does not know how to read the Bible, sorry...

Thesauros said...

Hugo, this is going to come as a suprise, apparently, but poetry doesn't need to be true, in order for it to be poetry. So when you encounter poetry in the Bible, you don't need to believe the Bible in order to know that it is, in fact poetry - unless U R a dumb atheist.

World of Facts said...

Makarios, yes I can detect poetry when I see some, what's your point?

I think you did not understand mine:
YOU believe the Bible to be MORE literal than ME.

So this reply of you was ridiculous:
And if so, why do atheists read ALL of it literally?

Am I writing in English or not? :)

Thesauros said...

Hugo: In the Post I gave examples of atheists reading in a literal manner when a different manner of expression is obvious. Eg. "Sunrise tomorrow is at 7:15" does not mean that the sun literally rises, YET if that is how it's put in the Bible, atheists read it literally.

World of Facts said...

Well if you want to reply to me but address what other atheists say go for it, it's not very surprising coming from you, as you have yet to understand what being atheist means!

Want me to attribute to you what some Christians say? it can be really stupid you know...

But anyway I will "defend" the examples of "atheists reading in a literal manner when a different manner of expression is obvious", because the idea is that believers take some passage of the Bible that are poetic, or metaphorical, or symbolic, call it as you wish, and then they use these passage to claim that the Bible made predictions or is scientifically accurate. Then, it's just normal to use the same technique to show examples of lies that are in that same collection of books.

Obviously, the problem is that you do not understand the context when these examples are used (the context of the discussion, not the context in the Bible).

Thesauros said...

The definition that I use is, An atheist is someone who lives as though God does not exist.

Yes I know, most of these do not SAY that God does not exist but, whether you're:
. a professing atheist (deny God's existence) or

. a functional atheist (live as though God does not exist),

the eternal result is the same.

World of Facts said...

An atheist is someone who lives as though God does not exist

Atheists do not believe in God, ok, fine, but they way you just wrote it show exactly what you do not understand about being atheist.

Since atheists share a non-belief, there's really nothing else you can say about atheists... nothing more in common.

It's more or less the same with any religion actually, but I least we can say that Christian all believe a few things.

For atheists it's not the case, you cannot say that all atheists believe this or that, it's simply not true.

So, can you say that atheists live as if there were no God? No, because it's the other way around. They live their life just as anybody else, but when presented with a claim about God they say, no, I do not believe that, and move on.

It's because your religion is so important for you that you think that atheists base their worldview on a non-belief in your friend God.

There is not a single decision I take in my life based on the idea that there is no god.

but we all know that theists act, or at least can act, otherwise...

Thesauros said...

Should creation be taught in school?

Is prayer effective?

Should people teach their children about Jesus' life death and resurrection?

Should we live our lives in such a manner that our eternal destiny is not in doubt?

Surely you can't be serious that what we believe doesn't have an effect on other areas of our lives.

Zzzst said...

So God and Jesus is a metaphor. Got it.

Thesauros said...

Sorry Gorth - I was wrong.

World of Facts said...

H:There is not a single decision I take in my life based on the idea that there is no god.

M:Surely you can't be serious that what we believe doesn't have an effect on other areas of our lives.

Did I say that? No. I agree with you on the fact that our beliefs have an effect on other areas of our lives. Non-beliefs not so much though, but since religious is intimately linked with society, yes, a non-belief in a god has an effect on other areas.
BUT, my point was that a non-belief in a god is not a basis for anything else. I would never think something like "I don't believe in god, therefore...", no, never.

Do you understand the difference?

No unfortunately... because you keep writing the false idea that atheists want to deny god at all cost, they cannot allow god to exist or else and blah blah blah...

Now back to the questions you asked... did you really want answers to these or what? anyway, they're funny so why not.

M:Should creation be taught in school?
Yes, painting, drawing, writing, any kind of creating skills kids can develop is a good thing to teach.
Oh wait, that's not what you meant... in science class, no fucking way, in religious class, why not... but they don't have these anymore in my province. How is it in Saskatchewan?

M:Is prayer effective?
Yes, always. Proof: I pray hard for you to never lose your faith, and it works, see!

M:Should people teach their children about Jesus' life death and resurrection?
Why not, just like Santa Claus or Hercules stories.

M:Should we live our lives in such a manner that our eternal destiny is not in doubt?
That's not a question, that's you affirming your belief in an eternal life/destiny and then showing how afraid you are of being wrong. Sucks to be a believer, why are you so afraid?
