Follow the Logic

On virtually every atheist blog that I read, I was astonished by comments that seemed completely irrational to me, while seeming completely satisfactory to those who wrote them.

For example, atheist physicist Victor Stenger states, “So where did the laws of physics come from? They came from nothing.”

That is the logic and reason of atheism. As far as I can tell, Stenger has not been sanctioned or rebuked by any fellow atheists for making such an incoherent statement. In fact, making claims that go against the same scientific principles they hold dear, seems to be allowable as long as those statements muddy the thinking regarding the possibility of Creator God existing. Here are some more statements that, when compared to how scientists say they operate, well, it’s puzzling that they would allow themselves to work in this manner.

Smithsonian paleobiologist, Douglas Erwin, “One of the rules of science is, no miracles allowed. That’s a fundamental presumption of what we do” (bold mine).

Biologist Barry Palevitz, “The supernatural is automatically off-limits as an explanation of the natural world” (bold mine).

Astronomer and physicist Lee Smolin, If the universe started at a point in time, “This leaves the door open for a return of religion. The theory is to be criticized as being unlikely on these grounds”

How in the world can a scientist, someone who says that s/he is dedicated to following the evidence where ever it leads, leave out a whole category of evidence just because it goes against h/her world view?

What evidence are they ignoring? Books written from the perspective of the sun circling the earth? The ramblings of fools?

Please enlighten us.

Let's start with something coming from nothing without a cause.

I happen to think there is a fair bit of evidence suggesting that is not possible. If none comes to mind for you, then I can't help you.

On the other hand, it seems as though you know the Bible better than I do. Could you enlighten me with the Book, chapter, verse where it says the sun circles the earth and while you're at it, where it says the earth is flat.

I'm serious. I've heard atheists say this many times and while I've read the Bible through many times, I've never come across those references.

The earth is a flat circle on pillars with a "tent" of hard sky with water above and water around.

Gorth, did you know that you are positively the stupidest person that I have ever spoken with? And any atheist that reads the Bible as literally (and no one reads the Bible more literally than do atheists) as you is not far behind.

Oh, and please speak with our weather station because they keep telling us what time the sun will rise tomorrow.

What a horrible way to start the new year talking to an idiot like you. I'm going to go have some tea.

Ya, the Bible isn't literal.
Jehovah is just a metaphor. You would have to be stupid to believe an invisible "man"/"ghost" raped a teenager and was his own son.

Where's my teh tarik?

In Genesis 1:8, God creates the firmament. This is the dome that covers the land and seperates the waters of the ocean from the waters of heaven. The Earth is conceived as a mass of land jutting out of the primordial waters, covered by a vast dome.

Joshua 10:13 clearly states the sun and moon stopped their movement across the sky. If the Earth had stopped spinning, everything on Earth's surface would be flung out into space at several hundred miles per hour (due to inertia). Luckily, the sun and moon are merely orbs of light which can in fact simply be stopped.

The Bible is truly the greatest source for scientific perspectives... of the bronze age.
