Richard Dawkins and Lunacy

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that pepole Peopl often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he’s a poached egg - or else he would be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or someting worse. You can shupt Him p for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."
C.S. Lewis. Mere Christianity p40-41

I know that's a really old quote that most people have heard. Still, people are taking the bait and thinking about it. One of those people is Richard Dawkins. Many people have made the case for Mr.Dawkins being incapable of deep thought. This is verified in his opinions regarding the Jesus: Lord, liar or lunatic issue. In all his brilliance, Richard Dawkins has gone with the lunatic option.

First of all I want to point out that while his bigotry seemingly know no bounds, Dawkins does have the sense to acknowledge the historical reality of Jesus of Nazareth. And by his accusation, Dawkins even agrees that Jesus claimed to be God. However, what Dawkins does with Jesus is as great as the lunacy he tries accuse Jesus of possessing. Dawkins says that Jesus just thought He was God. Jesus was simply mistaken. Jesus was in fact as mentally disturbed as someone who thinks he's a poached egg. Right.

I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher (assuming that he actually existed) but I don’t accept His claim to be God. The suggestion by Mak that Jesus was either the Son of God or a madman makes about as much sense as me saying that I either the Son of God or possess the golfing ability of Tiger Woods. Sheer jibberish.

"Jesus: Lord, liar or lunatic"?

Or legend or misquoted or...

CS Lewis: His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us.

I wouldn't even call him a "great teacher".
