You Are Unique Among A Totally Unique Species

What a difference it makes to believe in Creator God or to not believe in Creator God. For those in the first group, life is precious. From conception to natural death, from physically disabled to amazingly physically gifted, from mentally damaged to extraordinarily intelligent, we are all created in the image of God and therefore we are of extreme value and importance. For those in the latter group, well, there are far too many of us and something aught to be done about it - soon. In fact, for naturalists, to be ‘just another one of those’ is agony. For a materialist one must excel at something, anything really, in order to be certain of h/her own value and worth. In order to feel ok about one’s self, a person who is God’s enemy must be better educated than others s/he knows, or have more possessions, or a better job, better kids, be better looking or excel in something. For a secular person, being ordinary or less than average is almost enough to make one not want to live at all. As nations proceed to greater and greater secularism, rates of pathological self-obsession, linked with the depression and anxiety that can only follow are rising to unprecedented levels.

On the other hand, a relationship with Jesus brings to a person’s life the knowledge of significance that isn’t based on anything that this world can take away from the individual nor does it deteriorate with time or diminish with the rise and fall of wealth, beauty, health or age. This awareness of value and purpose, that comes when the Spirit of Jesus inhabits one’s soul, requires no effort or conscious thought. Nor do you need special skills or training, or payment of dues or fees in order to be at peace with your surroundings. A follower of Jesus is caught up in a transformation that is brought about through a re creation of one’s character and destiny.

God has designed us to count for something and He will make that happen in the most ordinary of lives, IF that individual places h/her trust in Jesus and makes Him Lord of h/her life. With Jesus as one’s guide, you can and will change the world for the better in ways that no one else is able. You will have a special role that only you can play. God’s plan is your destiny.

That is why, after learning that his wife and children had been lost at sea, a song writer was able to pen:

When peace like a river envelopes my soul
When sorrows like sea billows role
Whatever my lot
I am able to say
It is well, it is well with my soul
